One thing I'm finding is that even if I cannot prove it, I believe different branches fought for different reasons. One branch was Cherokee. They had been absorbed into the White population by some means probably not legal during the 'Removal'. While not wealthy at the wars beginning, they were not poor. I think they had a larger distrust of the Federal Government than the other who in Florida joined because his best friend did. His way of life was not as threatened as those in Alabama. The family could be considered poor, or not middle class. They ranched in the Lake City area.
How they all came to this county after the war I do know and why. I wish they had left some written record of their life before then.
