Maybe You didn't read Davids' post. Or it is that you simply reject anything which doesn't fit in your view of things.
It is a matter of history that this was the reason why Jefferson Davis, ex-president of the Confederacy after being held for two years in prison without the benefits of Habius Corpus, or any other rights of redress. And was released without being charged with any wrong doings. It wasn't done out of the kindness of anyones heart. This opinion, which lead to his being released, was issued by the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
There were plenty of calls for Davis, Robert E. Lee and others to be hung. But if the Supreme Court of the United States, and the last time I checked they were never a part of the Confederacy, issues a ruling before there is even a case ever filed, you bet your bottom dollar that you may win the case in a bigoted court in New York City, but you were not going to win it on appeal.
But that was a UNITED STATES Supreme Court's opinion after the war was over. Certainly no one in the south had the power or the authority to issue such a opinion.
