Re: What was Lafayette fighting for?

"Do you think God still speaks in an audiable voice?"

I realize that you directed this question to Stephen. But I would like to also reply. God spoke to people in an audiable voice in the Bible when it suited his purposes. As he did so then, he is still able to do so now.

If someone was to claim that God spoke audiably to them today we would lock them up in a padded cell without regarding what the message was that they had recieved.

John Brown claimed to be such a person, speaking directly with God and claimed to be doing Gods will, rendering Gods judgement upon the unjust for the sins of slavery. Did John Brown speak directly to God and hear God speak in an audiable voice? I can not answer that question with assurity. But I don't believe that he was a tool of Gods Judgement in the way he thought he was.

But, what I can say is that God works in the hearts of men and he does not need the help of men to exercise his judgement. He has already judged Man and the Earth. He mearly has to withdraw his protective hand for his judgement to follow.

Sometime that judgement is executed by people who are not very godly people. For example Gods people, the Jews, fell from the protective hand of God many times and have been oppressed many times in history for their sins by very Ungodly people such as the Egyptians, Meades, Persians, Assyrians, and the Babylonias. The object of these oppressions and captivities of the Jews was to bring them back into a closer relationship with God.

Remembering that God is not interested so much in the Physical state of Mans being, such as is he enjoying freedom, or is he in bondage. For freedom, even our own here in this country, in fact is man being self aware and self indulgence and pursuit of their personal pleasures and therefore a form of idol worship. But, God is more interested in the Spritiual state of Man, what is his relationship to God and his son?

Merry Christmas
