New Book

I- GOT- BOOKS- FOR- CHRISTMAS!!!

So what's new? I got "The Blue and Gray in Black and White A History of Civil War Photography" by Bob Zeller, 2005, 224 pages

Here is a history of who were the photographers and how they did it. Also, what's new in new discoveries in forgotten or little known photographs from the war.

Number one interesting subject is a chapter called "The Dawn of Combat Photography". In this chapter are two photographs taken from two different photographers, from two different angles, on the same day, at the same subject. The September 8, 1863 bombardment of Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie. The book includes enhancements of the original negitives, that show unknown details. Now you can see from the view from Fort Sumter (Confederate view) and from Morris Island (Union view) the bombardment in progress, and the ironclad ships USS Passaic, Montauk, Nahant, Patapsco, Lehigh and New Ironsides and the forts in combat. Impressive is the smoke erupting from USS New Ironsides, hugging the water and then arcing hundreds of feet into the sky. Very cool.
