Joseph Wheeler, famed Confederate Cavalry leader, highly respected Alabama Congressman, and hero of the Spanish-American War died on January 25, 1906, while on a visit to Brooklyn, New York. The whole nation, North and South mourned. He is one of the few Confederate officers buried at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
