It just seem to be convient timing for every theater to have an offensive heading into "northern" territory at rough the same period of time.

I have often wondered if Bragg had won at Perryville and advanced to the Ohio River with Lee in Maryland, maybe even whipping a portion of little Mac's army, what the reprocussions in the north that would have had? I know that this may be spectulation, but it may well have been one of the unaccomplished aims of these campaigns also. Who brags about their nonaccomplishments?

Certainly one of the objectives which Bragg possibly was hoping to accomplish by moving into Kentucky was the same as Lee in Maryland. To take the war out of Tennessee and north Mississippi and possibly have the Union army there follow him. I can imagine at least a dozen good military reasons for Braggs and Lee's manuvers besides the reasons commonly stated as to why these campaigns were undertaken. Including the cooperation of Bragg along the Ohio River with with Lee's Army.

With a Confederate threat to Ohio as well as Lee in Maryland and Pennsylvania the northern Newspapers would have been screaming, in light of the devestating defeats the Union Army had suffered in Virginia that year, for Lincoln to sue for peace and let the southern states go. I certainly could see how that may have been a political objective of Davis'. Bragg's defeat at Perryville ended that possibiity of threatening the Ohio River commerce and the state of Ohio.

As with all military operations there are always primary and secondary military objective. What we sometimes forget is that there are also primary and secondary political as well as primary and secondary stratigic objective which the planners hope they may be able to accomplish as well.
