Yeah, my mother grew up in Deweyville, TX in the 1920's and 30's. The Red Bones lived across the Sabine River in Starks, LA and were considered to be libertines(my word). Deweyville residents thought it very risky behavior when young men snuck across the river to visit those parts.

I always thought of them as red, black and white, especially Cajun white.
