Thank you for the link Jim. With the larger information gathering base and people/family history connections the internet brings, there may well be more interest and discovery on this lesser known culture. It does make one wonder why they aren't as well discussed as some other 'mixed' groups? Considering the passing down of a people's history through stories and other means, there doesn't appear to be much on this group. Almost like a UFO dropped off a colony to see how they did.

In the early census records in my area, I know there has been the catagory for White that the Spanish were listed as. C and FMC or FWC for Color but there was another listing---P for what I've been told was "Portugee". I've never been able to find anything to explain why that was a seperate 'race'. It could be reasoned out if the Mulungeons began in a well visited port area or population that was mixed. The fact that they 'show up' in an area that was sort of remote is a puzzle. If the DNA could be proven through a line that was unbroken by known Spanish and other Mediteranian people the theory of 'lost sailors' could hold up if the right markers are there. We have explorers going out looking for lost tribes and these people seem to be of little interest. Maybe it's because of their 'bad press', deserved or not, they are in our country. Sadly, those who are in these online groups and other clubs seem to be in disagreement on their heritage. Are these connected in any way to the North Carolina Romnies I wonder?
