Chase, as I said earlier, I would likely have done what my folks did; fight for the side where they were planted, like the Gunny's kin in East Tennessee. Just as I have often felt between generations, having been born in 1938, I have mixed feelings about the war. Half of my relatives, about 50, were in the union armies, and the other half, 49, I think, were Confederates. Life do get confusin' sumtimes, don't it? (When I wrote "it" I almost put "hit", as this was a way of pronouncing that word common in the mountains. It is a hangover from Elizabethan English. Some of those old mountaineers from the far branches of my family sounded more British than Southern.LOL) Stan
