Another What If

I was reading the Civil War Times today and James McPherson has a great article on Lee and the Gettysburg campaing. But that is not my "What If>.

McPherson points out that part of Lee's plan's or should I say ambition was to cause the peace society to vote against Lincoln by winning in Pennsylvania. This is a general synopsis as you would have to read the article to undrstand the whole thing and I'm not doing a good job.

Ok, What if McClellan and the Peace Democrats won? Would Lincoln pursue the War with as much blood, bullets, and money until McClellan took over with his promise of peace?

Now we know through the years of being on this board, how Lincoln manipulated or guided events before taking office even as early as December.

Do you think he would continue the War until he couldn't pursue it any further? If not with more,,,,,
