This is what I posted on the SHAPE message board last year.

There were only 400,000 Confederates (and they changed units 3 times each) and all that survived the measles were killed (combat or yankee prisons) or wounded because 25% of them were unarmed, half were barely clothed and all were underfed. If there had been another 100,000 rebels with pitch forks, then we would not have any flag controversies...not in the South.
