I've heard that as well, and remember reading of a Lt. in a unit of the ANV being at home in Ga. to get a new horse. Also, Lee asked, and Grant granted, that the surrendering ANV troops at Appomattox be allowed to take their horses home, as they owned them, and would need them for plowing. Stan
