Re: Texas Confederate opposed to slavery?

I know that a poll was taken throughout the army in late 64-early 65 and the result was overwhelmingly for putting the slaves into the army, effectively destroying the institution as they knew it. There were also complete commands that were for it and those against it. That poll was conducted when the army was at its lowest size and I've never seen a 90% for putting slaves into the army for this poll.

What it told me was a good majority of the loyal Confederate troops, those that had not deserted, were willing to give up slavery to continue the war.
