Does anyone know anything about one Levi Miller, Co. C, 5th Texas Infantry? I came across an article describing this man as being enlisted by Capt. J.E. Anderson, at the insistance of the men of Co. C. This was because Miller had fought alongside them in the Wilderness. The twist here?.....Levi Miller was African-American!!! It seems that opposition to the black man serving in the Confederate Army was more on the home front than in the field with the men doing the fighting and dying! Apparently Miller was granted a pension by the state of Texas in 1907 in recognition of his service!
