The rolling volley at the redoubt in the Movie Zulu is also one of three great scenes in the movie; the defense of the redoubt, the rolling advance, and the Zulu's singing attack. The sounds and sights of the Zulu's singing as they advanced is an awe inspiring scene for me, an ancient form of fighting for sure.

Your rolling advance must have been great to have participated in, I would have loved to have been apart of that. In Zulu the rolling advance was done differently in that the advancing rank knelt and loaded while the rear rank stood and fired (over the heads of the loading front rank). What I liked about Zulu was they had two commands, FIRE and ADVANCE, the soldiers knew they had to halt, kneel, load, and to stand (once the ADVANCE command was giving).

Our rolling advance was a kneeling advance, with four open ranks, first rank firing, and then the second rank standing and passing to the right of the man in front, kneeling at the ready and firing, then the third, then the fourth, and back to the first rank again. Constantly advancing towards the enemy and firing, as you say, about every 10 seconds. The entire enemy sees is fire and smoke getting closure and closure. Uses up a lot of ammo.
