No sir, I haven't read those books. I've read quite a few books about the Roman army, though. From everything I've read, Julius Caesar was the real goods, from a military standpoint anyway. Of course, he was the product of the military system I talked about before, but he also had that "special something" that turns a good soldier into an outstanding leader, whatever that something is.
Have you read his "Commentaries on the Gallic Wars?" It's a classic in the field of military writings. I was so impressed with it that I learned Latin so I could read it just as he wrote it.
