Scott the slave was with Company H from the company formation to the end of the war. At the surrender of Vicksburg the Union soldiers taunted him to stay join up with them to be free, but he stuck with his master and his Confederate company. When Lt. McKinley was paroled, wounded, it was Scott who nursed him back to health. At the wars end he marched back to Georgia with company H a free man. The McKinley's gave Scott house on twenty acres to farm, where he died in 1870.
