I would hope that is what happened.

I was not the only person who noticed the original barrel. We even went so far as to suggest at the time that maybe the superintendant might replace the original barrel with a reproduction and move the original barrel to the Museum portion of the park for display. Rather than leave it outside unsecured where it could be stolen easily considering its value.

We (reenactors) were back at the park last fall and noticed that the original had been replaced with a reproduction. When we asked the park ranger what happened to the original? Were they working on putting it on display? We were told that they didn't know anything about an original parrot barrel.

Go figure.
