Re: Reparations for former slave owners

Great post!
Outstanding in fact!
In regard to slavery I do know that at least one loyal slave stayed with my ggg grandmother Price in White County Arkansas. I know that because she was the one who recognized my gg grandfather when he walked home from Texas in the summer of 1865. The former slave stayed and starved with the rest of the folks until they lost the land because there was no money to pay the taxes and among other things there was no money for food either.
Some of the hindsight folks forget that the people- meaning the slave and the master- had a bond that many times went back to birth and childhood so tht no amendment made a difference.
People only received money if the person signed that loyalty oath. My own gg grandfather W. R. Vaughan refused to sign it saying the war had cost him too much. That man died flat broke in Little Rock, Arkansas in the mid-1870's. That impacted his own family long after his death with money for his grave marker coming only in recent times from the U. S. government because of his CSA service. How ironic is that!
