Re: How the Soldiers are (were) Buried

In June, I will be installing a grave marker for a Confederate ancestor who was buried near the military hospital in Princeton, AR on 11 June 1864. He lies in an unmarked grave.

A Union soldier from Iowa died at the same place, on the same day, and his body was taken to the U.S. military cemetery in Little Rock for a formal burial in a marked grave.

I believe this was typical. The Union, with all its wealth and humongous army, had the means to invade the South and bury their dead with full honors most of the time...... while our heroes died defending their homes and we are lucky if we are able find them.
