Re: Greatest ships captain in American history

Doyle, you can type in Reconstruction and get two diametrically opposed views. The neo-Confederate view. We were the oppressed downtrodden victims of the Federal Government or the Negro view, we were the oppressed downtrodden victims who were for awhile allowed civil rights in the South.

Take your money and make your choice. We both know that the day a battle was fought and who won is a fact of history. When we get into why it happen, was it good it happen, who did what, we get into view...your view, my view.

I'll be honest, I love to watch those shows where ole Billy Yank puts a big time butt whipping on your boys in gray. At the same time, I dislike when white southerners are demonized as black killing racists. Were some innocent blacks strung up in the South. Oh, I would say so. Yet statistics tell me that black on white crime every three years since the start of the 1960's is higher than the total of black lynching throughout Reconstruction.

Now, Doyle you can get "facts" from SCV web sites and I can get "facts" from NAACP websites and back up both views of Reconstruction. Type in the word and see. Or if you were a black man, I could type in a SCV web sites and speak of the horrors of Reconstruction while you as a Negro could state that racial justice was trying to be implemented. Quite honestly I don't agree with the extremes of either view.

There is a book out called REDEMPTION, The Last Battle of The Civil War. I don't remember the author. It tells of some pretty violent actions against blacks by whites during Reconstruction..shooting, killing, beating of them after Federal troops left. Some I have no doubt is true, most I believe is black propaganda against the evil white society. I just looked at it, maybe I'll buy it when I don't see anything better.

You said in your last paragraph that I might say something about blacks being discriminated in a election in the South, let me honest, I don't lose sleep worrying about blacks being discriminated against. Especially now days, it seems to work the other way around. One thing about me, I don't believe in what the party line preaches, should that be the SUV,SCV, or NAACP. I do like that old joke though about the Negro who went to vote down in the South and the requirement was you had to be able to read. They gave him some Greek verse off the Rosetta stone and he say "dis say dat dis nigga ain't going to vote here today."

So Doyle, you're a cop, how do you explain my contradictory views. Love seeing Billy Yank win the War. Hate seeing Rebs, demonized by Afro- Centric Blacks. Guess you could say that I'm a sectionalist but an even bigger racist. Well maybe I am and maybe I'm not. One thing about it, I don't play follow the Fuehrer, whoever he may be. Adieu.
