Civil War + PTSD

I read a story in the Civil War Historian about the history of Alcohol use, this is the third series and I really don't know if they are doing more but so far it has been interesting.

My topic, there seems to be a correlation between alcohol abuse, PTSD and spousal abuse. Eric T. Dean did a study of the records from the an Indiana hospital and determined that the alcoholism, spousal abuse and PTSD are directly related to the Civil War. The only War close to the Civil War is Vietnam and Dean states that combat troops in the Civil War were 90% of the total soldiery while only 15% of the Vietnam soldiers were combat. Also the Civl War soldiers were subjected to more combat.

I have tracked one of my ancestors and from June of 1863 to the end of the War, he was in at least one battle pr week and sometimes two per day. That is a lot of fear for life to deal with.

I thought yall would find this interesting that there has been a study done. The Study was called Shook over Hell, Post Traumatic Stress of Viet Nam and Civil War veterans, or something like that, my magazine is still at work.
