This law made it legal to enslave and sell California Indians.
Not only was California a slave state at the outbreak of the Civil War, according to the 13th Amendment (which is alleged to outlaw slavery) the 1850 Indenture Act was legal and the practice of Indian slavery continued long after the Civil War.
Until there were too few California Indians left to enslave. Not only were they enslaved but slavery was used to nearly exterminate them. Lincoln didn't care a hoot about them in slavery.
