Back about 1981 a friend of mine was helping his uncle cut a hugh dead oak tree on the farm which had been in the family since about 1840...the tree was hollow and they found a WBTS era enfield rifle wrapped in oilcloth that was in near mint condition....they thought it was probably hidden there during the war to keep the yanks from confiscatibg it...

This was near Palmyra MO.
