Here is an interest statement from the novel "Blow The House Down" by Robert Baer 2006 Three Reivers Press p105 in reference to wars being fought under false pretenses:

"...Our own Civil War: free the slaves or steal a cheap labor pool."

Interesting perspective, especially if you argue that slavery was "THE CAUSE" of the war.
