I was just kicked back listening to one of the many great songs performed by the 2nd South Carolina String Band and noted in the lyrics of Southern Soldier they refereed to the yankees as "hoards of mercenaries" Never heard Yanks called mercs, many other strong adjectives but not that one!

I’ll place my knapsack on my back and march up to the firing line and kill that yankee soldier…ah what a time that must have been!
