Re: US Army senior staff officers

You know that popular history contends that these men acted in a conspiratorial manner that such men as Jeff Davis, when he was US Secretary of War, had positioned such men as Col. Albert S. Johnston, Lt Col Robert E Lee, and Major George Thomas all into such units as the 2nd US Cavalry at the same time in the 1850's in preparation for the coming War.

This is a far too complicated a plan requiring years, maybe even decades, of preplanning to bring off successfully. That is the reason I reject such claims that certain people where in the right place for these events to happen.

You can look at each of the men's charactor and you will quickly see that they were each individuals who were extremely independant for Military men who are taught to follow orders. This is the reason why I believe that their personal Honor was more of the driving force for each of these men to resign their commission. NOT regional loyality because of ones birthplace.

And if they felt that Honor bound to make such a drastic move, you have to ask yourself 'WHY did they feel that way?'
