My GM din't sniff. That was thought of as being "uppity"! She kept hers behind her lower lip, and spat discreetly in a tin can. BTW, she turned out to have had a speech impediment, in that the little strip of tissue under your tongue was too short in her case. She had it snipped later in life. And all the time I thought she didn't talk plain because she was dippin' snuff! I could usually understand her, though. LOL Stan
