Just to make things perfectly clear, what is included on Ancestry.Com is generally "index" information not the service record or pension file documents. My wife, misunderstood the Ancestry.Com ads as providing online what we provide through the Military Records Research Service.

Secondly, I do not "renew" my Ancestry.Com U.S. Deluxe membership. Generally, if you allow the membership to lapse, you will get a "special offer" a few weeks to a month later offering a yearly subscription at a reduced price. I restarted my membership this last year for $95.00, a savings of $60.00 over the normal renewal price.

I can't guarantee that this special offer will be available shortly after you let your subscription run out, but I've done it for two or three years now.
