George, look up the name W. Frank Toler in the Hadskey report. You will see he surrendered in North Carolina. His servant, Ben Faust, drew a pension for his service with the 7th Mississippi.

On the original roster of the Opelousas Guards, Company F of the 8th Louisiana Infantry you will find the name of Charles F. Lutz who is listed as a "free man of color". He drew a Louisiana pension and was even a POW once. Wayne Cosby has researched him and written a nice brief account of his service and this is where I learned about him drawing a pension. I can email you his story if Wayne says it is ok. FYI... my 2nd great-grandpa Solomon Cole was in this company.
