Re: Hi Jim

Chase,

A few days ago, I posted a message on the Alabama site asking our contributors to be very careful about their spelling of veteran's names, titles, battles, locations, etc. I especially encouraged them to be thoughtful in their construction of the subject line. I was primarily referring to the correct spelling of proper names, not correct grammar or tense. I purposely make the message boards searchable by the major search engines like Google and Yahoo. If our posters don't take a little extra care to spell their ancestor's name properly or properly identify his unit, it's likely some of our helpful experts on the message boards will try to aid them, but the millions who are using search engines will not find their posting. Most of our new visitors and contributors arrive at these message boards, as a result of search engine query.

Some people knew what I was talking about, but others translated my posting as a complaint about their spelling, generally. As a result, several posters requested that I add some sort of spell checker. There are two (2) spell checkers compatible with the WebBBS software that we use for these message boards. I chose SpelChek as it was "free" and it required the least alteration to the code or Perl Script used to run these boards. I hope you and others find it of value. If you experience any "bug", slow operation or other problems, please tell me.

Jim
