Re: The Hunley on the History Channel

I enjoy "Cities of the Underworld" also. I thought the show on Budapest was interesting. I was unaware of the extent of those cavern systems.

The Hunley was as well done as I think it could have been. Much easier for the 'novice' (me) to understand. The findings of the bones location was unexpected and interesting. If they were victims of Carbon Dioxide poisoning wouldn't they have just passed out? That could account for it. The lack of space to move around seems to me at least, not something that would hinder at least a few to try to escape. How very meticulous they were on the watch stopping work. Makes one appreciate these brains who connect the dots in this type of Science. The best part is that this is one piece of History that has not been delegated to an attic in a musty storage place. Showing the honorable way they conducted the burials was as good a way to show the humanity of the crew as the pipes and other personal effects.

I understand the men onboard knew well the danger but were they truly believing it probably be a 'suicide mission'?
