I have been researching a POW captured at the Big Black Bridge in MS the past few days and yesterday learned this: In June of 1863 he was sent from Fort Delaware to Point Lookout for exchange along with others. In July 1863 they were returned to Fort Delaware on orders of Federal Major Gen Robert C Schenck. He was not exchanged until Dec 1863 under the provisions of exchanging sick or disabled POWs.
