It is reported that he did suffer from a period of depression. I think in those days the called it melancoly. It was between the time that he broke off his engagment to Mary Todd and the time that they got back together and go married. I think today they give meds for that. It is actually more of a blood disorder that anything else. They call it bipolarsim or something like that. FC
