I guess I'm an uninformed Okie. I had not heard of this! One thing we need to "be careful of" with this line of thinking is the "loss" of federal funding and the "anguish" the public will feel. Notice the quotes- I don't necessarily feel this way.

An example: No Child left behind has resulted in a tremendous expenditure of funds to meet federal guidelines/deadlines/"penalties". All a public school district has to do is stop accepting federal funds and it is no longer bound by NCLB. However, most (all) districts have become so reliant on those same federal funds that they cannot afford to stop. And therefore are caught in a sort of Catch-22. I don't know that we Oklahomans will be willing to "give up" that which we so willingly feed for at the trough.

To tie this in with the Civil War....perhaps the federal government shouldn't participate in the celebration/commemoration of the sesquicentennial?
