Re: Stone's River to be developed

Stan..........at least someone was given an opportunity to explore and "relic hunt" the area. Here in Virginia near all of our sacred battlefields they just bulldoze it over. Several years ago a parcel of land was "developed" into $400,000+ homes on one to two acre tracts. It's called Turkey Hollow. Thing is....it's where Jackson had the Federal Army backed up against the Chickahominy River after the battle of Gaines' Mill. aka Turkey Hill/Grapevine Bridge. They scraped all the topsoil off the site and piled it up in front of the developement. I'm talking a mountain of dirt. Then the dirt was hauled off and new topsoil was brought in to ready those precious lawns for sod planting. Sure wouldn't want any bullets, bones, artillery rounds, buttons, rifles, bayonets, etc., etc. to get in the way of a nice lawn. I saw a few relic hunters on that "mountain" of topsoil before it was trucked off. Dirt can be a wonderful thing. ;-)
