Thank you sir. We surely do it for the love because it ain't cheap. I might get $100-$200 at some events as a bounty for my gun. But we will shoot close to $300 worth of powder and primers. Then there is the "getting there" part. Thank goodness gas prices have dropped. 8000 pounds of trailer, cannon, limber, and gear really puts a bite on your gas mileage. I'm actually quite the sissy compared to some. There are guys that take the field today that call themselves "progressive" or "campaigners". These guys are all business. I've known some to march into an event with nothing but rifle, cartridge box and a haversack, having left their vehicle some miles away. They forage and beg for food and sleep under the stars. Many of them go shoeless. The scoff at coolers hidden in tents and hamburgers cooking on camp fires. But of course not even they come close to the real soldiers of the day. Think about A.P. Hill's Light Division at Sharpsburg. They force marched from Harper's Ferry to Sharpsburg in about 5 hours, then went right into line. Now that's a hike. And that land ain't exactly flat either. Those fellows both blue and grey had heart and conviction. We can never know the true hardship they faced every day. I have really enjoyed my reenacting experiences. I've met some great people and had a lot of fun. And making a positive impression on the spectators, especially the kids is an added reward. Keith
