Let me be clear, my posting is not a "pro-Southern" posting, it is a posting asking for historical accuracy. Unfortunately, ideology or political correctness has crept into the reporting and writing of history. I believe, many academics and history departments have led the way in allowing their political and ideological views to violate their "oath" to write history without bias or for personal gain. If the academics do it, why should amateur historians, such as this gentleman, not veer from the facts and write "their slant" on history.
I'm a Southerner, so I have an emotional connection with "the gray", but I am also the descendant of a mixed ancestry of Confederate and Union soldiers, whom I choose to honor and represent factually and without bias. It is bad enough that many of our universities require NO HISTORY credits for graduation and the quality of instruction at the secondary, public school level is horrid, but to then promote a false, biased or "Orwellian" history through a major preservation group or from our NPS staffers is simply terrible.
Please don't take this as a political statement regarding any particular candidate, but what can we expect in the future, if our young people and "new arrivals" have no true understanding of our history, our traditions and civics.
Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.
Thomas Jefferson
Sorry about the rant.
