The loss of any Marine hero diminishes the country in my view. I think of my friend Cump Turchin's dad who survived Iwo. I never met the man or even talked to him, but know his type. Friends' dads survived Guadalcanal, Bouganville, Tarawa, Peliliu and other hell-holes that many didn't have to go to because they did. And it's not just USMC, it's Navy, Army, USAF, Coast Guard, the Women vets and the Merchant Marine, another set of forgotten heroes of WW2.

On a night like this, I am thinking of those who went before and wondering????????
