Mark, my dad was in that fracas on Iwo. Just a distant memory to most folks, if even that...like Gettysburg, Vicksburg, The Alamo or Yorktown. Sad situation. The thing about dad was he had it so hard coming up that basic training was enjoyable....getting those three square meals a day. I often think about that. Don't rightly know if I could have survived like he did or not. Probably if I had made it, I would have been ate up with a lot of hate. Dad wasn't like that. He was OK, of course being a Marine, he could still be a little bossy.
