When the south Seceded, who was going to stop the Lincoln Government? The opposition left.
If the South wanted peace, it could have stayed and fought in the halls of the Senate, the House…The Southern folk could have been one of the “Checks” in the checks and balances installed in the Constitution by the Forefathers. Instead, they left because they perceived they were overpowered by the “Black Republicans”. Instead of pulling all their votes on one 1860 Presidential candidate, they were split among several, allowing Lincoln to win.
