Re: Wayward sisters, depart in peace

"Instead of pulling all their votes on one 1860 Presidential candidate, they were split among several, allowing Lincoln to win."

This is true. But a third party candidate vote has caused this several times in our history.

Tell me at whaat point does a person decide to leave a sinking Titanic?

When a Ship gets so many holes in its hull, it sinks. How long do you try to patch the holes?

Once you decide that you can not patch the holes and stop the flooding, when do you get into the life boats?

Do you get in the first boat? Do you wait for the last Boat? What if all the boats are gone? Or do you go down with the ship?

Now I am speaking metaphorically here, But our country is like a ship on the ocean, and the Constitution is the hull of that once great ship of state.

Change is not always good, nor is it always bad. Our forefathers saw this in the late 1700's when the United States under the Articles of Confederation became unworkable.

George Washington was NOT the First President of the United States. There were 14 Presidents of the United States before him. George Washington was the first President of the United States under our Present Constitution. They remade the United States when they wrote a better compact that they could live under in the original Constitution. Now I am now for scrapping that Constitution. BUT, I am for getting back to the ORIGINAL intent of that Constitution, from which we have departed from.

If we can NOT salvage this country, why not start another one in the same mold and try again? THAT is what the Confederacy was attempting to do. Whats wrong with That?
