What makes you think that Lincoln was going to free the slaves. Did he not say in his inagural address that he was not going to do anything about slavery in the STATES where it existed? Why would anyone think he was not telling the truth? As it turned out, even tho his hands were tied before the war, once he go war powers he was able to do that the south feared the most. In my opinion. What say you?
