Re: Wayward sisters, depart in peace

It has been pointed out on this board several times by David Upton that the South had made attempts to free the slaves each time being blocked by Northern interests. What was it 4 states that actually wrote cause of secession documents 1/3 of the Confederate states, that actually mention slavery. Mississippi even said no care had been provided for the freed slaves, how is this to maintain the institution? Also I see nothing in these documents that says we want to keep slavery as it is each and every one address abuses of the law. As far as Negro equality goes, neither Lincoln nor the majority wanted the Negro to be equal. This is evident in the Black codes and other laws passed by the North.

What was set up Kevin? The constitution? Not allowing the Southern states to peacefully secede was a direct violation of the constitution and was against the intended concept of united states. Do you read anything posted to this board? If you do surely you realize that Major Anderson made the first aggressive move and Lincoln was not sending a supply convoy but a well armed armada to Charleston

I haven’t changed my position either, but I do not promote myself as a Son of the South while at the same time taking a swipe at the South with every chance I get. No you are not just playing the devils advocate as you say.

Did it ever occur to you your conclusions could be wrong? I have no sworn duty to uphold anything except true historical fact and one of these facts is the war was not fought over slavery. I also read all of the things you mention, and I let history define its own conclusion. If you don’t like it, I am darn happy.

Now show me the facts. Where did the South say we are going to war for slavery, where the North said we are fighting to free the slaves? Abe Lincoln didn’t say it, Jeff Davis didn’t say it, and they were the man in charge. How many salves were freed by Anderson occupying Sumter? When Sumter was fired on was the war cry “free the Slaves” I don’t think so, I think it was “Avenge Sumter”

The idea of fighting to free the slaves is an excuse to justify the illegal war on a free and peaceful country.
