That is absolutely true. Our forefathers were smart enought to realize that no form of government that can ever be written down that will every be perfect. They left the true form of government to the people. Not a throne, or a King, or a Congress, or any comination of our states arrayed against another.
The Constitution is about the ATTITUDE and principals which our Government should follow. Not powers and principalities. The Constitution did not grant the Central federal government absolute right and powers over the states, per the 9th and 10th Amendments. Therein lays the difference in interpretation, "by Lincoln haters", of what the role that Government should play in the lives of the people of any country. Some people are happy with having their Government telling them how to live, of what is correct, what are proper thoughts, and even what to eat. There are others who do not wish this level of goverment intervention in their lives, or for that matter any intervention at all.
In fact New Hampshire's state motto is "Live Free, or Die", ain't that a laugh. Seeing that they at one time wanted to seceed from this Union of States, but fought to deny that same privelege to the Southern States. So it is not principles that guide our Government, but political convience and hypocrisy that directs us now.
A government that is primarily guided by political convience is doomed to fail because you will never be able to please everybody in such a large dirverse body of people as the United States repersents. Only a Government based in principals alone will gains that trust.
