I believe the right to own property had been around Europe for some time. "Every Englishman's home is his castle". Also certain rights of law. That there was religious control is quite right. Though dissention to some extent was tolerated in Britian. As for the liberty of the Indian tribe. Those who went against their own traditions were outcast and cutoff from their tribe. Personal liberty? More like loyalty to the tribe. The American frontestierman, the mountain man and those who traveled alone, had a great value on personal freedom. With settlments...be they red, white or balck come rules. One might have to distingush from personal freedom and anarchy.
