Re: "Traitors"

You may not have gotten the answer you wanted or expected but you got many honest opinions. Your family was just one of many who had members who experienced the unCivil War first hand. Not all felt the same as yours did. You can't get three people in a room today and get a majority on many things. It's human nature. Soldiers joined an army. They fought. Not all joined for the same or even right reason. The home folks dealt as best they could. Some were bitter that there was a war because it changed their lives in some way. It's understandable. Not all believed it was wrong to fight with the Confederacy. Not all who fought for the Confederacy believed in slavery. Not all who fought for the Confederacy even believed there should be war until the Confederacy was invaded. Not all believed in the orders they recieved. Fact is, it was like any other military action. Commands filter down for the troops to obey. That's it, plain and simple. Not everything was pretty, nor was it by the book, but it happened. We can't change what happened then just as we cannot change some peoples opinions now. That's life and human nature. We learn to accept it. Don't have to like it, but that's also---human nature.
