"By the way did anybody see the end of the Cotton Bowl? Confederate flags were flying everywhere and the band played Dixie! Go Ole Miss! Things are a changing and we need to keep the momentum."

David, This is exactly what I am talking about. We should fly the symbols of our heritage and what people think of it can be hanged.

But if we were to go by the precepts of the original intent of this thread, we would have to ask some question.

#1 Why were they waving those flags and Playing Dixie?

As I remember a few years back, in a effort to be politically correct, the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) decided to ban the display of the Confederate Flag at their football games and design a School flag with a big "M" on it to replace the CBF. They banned the flag from being brought into their stadium and confiscated any that they found being brought in. They also tryed to change the "Colonel" as their mascot. I thought that they banned the playing of "Dixie"? But, I must be wrong because the Ole Miss band played it at the game, right?

#2 So were these people waving the flags being racist?

Or maybe not racist. Maybe they are only "Crackers and Rednecks"? They are the only ones who fly that flag aren't they, on the front bumpers of their pickups? Or tatooed on their arms or other parts of their bodies.

#3 Was the Band Racist for playing "Dixie"?

The school which they were cheering for had said that such displayed were inflamatory and racist. So we have to ASSUME that by this display what you saw was blantant unashamed racism. Since they couldn't have been doing that for any other reason, like pride, or protest, or even school spirit, since they used a "racist" symbol.

#4 In waving those flags at a football game, how exactly were they "honoring" Confederate Veterans? Can anyone explain this? Isn't that what we want to religate the use of the Confederate Battle Flag to?

#5 What litmus Test did they pass to be entitled to wave those flags and NOT draw the "Reeducation letters" from historians that they are using that flag improperly?

Don't you agree?

By the way the Fort Smith, Arkansas Southside High School Band, "The Rebels", during their championship play off game in Little Rock a couple of weeks ago, played "Dixie" beautifully during the game to the cheers of everybody.
