I am sorry I don't see it that way. How on earth can saving over 500,000 lives be violating his oath? Ordering Anderson back to Moultrie would have relieved the situation and was still within the boundaries of a treaty set by the previous president. He could have claimed he was honoring that treaty. he could have met thepeace delegation and still maintained his oath. He could have said those folks have a right to self government and let them remain in peace. Lincoln had no intention of seeking a peaceful resolution to the crisis instead he overstepped his power and provoked a war.
