Re: Constitutional Conventions

Bryan, you have it exactly right.

If these fantasy Rambos really want to prepare for war with the US military, then they wouldn't be crowding into the gunshows. Al-sadr's forces have learned the hard way that you cannot fight the most skilled military on the planet with small arms from gunshows! What an absurdity! But the fellows in this thread seem to find it an exciting idea. These fellows have learned absolutely nothing from the modern warfare classrooms of Iraq, and yet still fantasize that they and their gunshow buddies will stand up to the finest best trained armed force the world has ever seen?

The only thing that the insurgents have found that has proved effective against our military is the IUD. If these Rambo-wannabees really wanted to try to prepare for war in the streets of America against the armed forces of this country, they would not be crowding the gunshows on weekend and grooming their chesthair, they'd be combing the second hand shops for old cell phones and cheap electronics and browsing the internet to learn the art of making roadside bombs. For pennies they could stop a machine that costs half a million.

They delude themselves here thinking that the small arms that the present Constitution allows them to own will protect them from the government, which is just plain silly as you point out, while at the same time they applaud the notion of tearing the Constitution completely apart and starting all over with a fresh slate. What utter nonsense! Just who do they think will write this new Constitution they yearn for? Newt Gingrich and John Kerry? Barney Frank and Mitt Romney? Maxine Waters and Sarah Palin? Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken? Wall Street lobbyists and the American Civil Liberties Union?

Do they really think the very politicians and groups and "think tanks" who have failed us for decades will be able to suddenly devise and construct and complete a new and better government? They flock to gunshows to "protect" themselves from the politicians they blame for our troubles, but yet can hardly wait to have those very same politicians re-write the government from scratch? The eagerness for the "New Constitution" apparent in some of these posts in this thread is amazing. They quiver with excitement like schoolgirls at a Jonas Brothers concert

Instead of hoping for those final two states to bring us all to the disaster of a whole "New Order", these folks should be doing everything they can to stop it from happening. And like you say, that won't be brought about by buying bullets at gunshows, but by taking civic responsibility, and participating fully, in making our system work better for everyone, not just the few and the priveleged and the powerful.
